Wingspan vs. Lumanu

Lumanu review: pricing, features, and alternatives

Lumanu is a creator payments and tax compliance platform for brands, agencies, and marketing teams. It collects W-9s and W-8s, e-files 1099s, and pays vendors in 132 currencies across 180+ countries (3). Lumanu publishes no pricing figures. Capterra lists a $99 per month starting price on a usage-based model (8). Platforms paying workers in many countries should compare Wingspan first. Stripe Connect focuses on embedded platform payouts, Tipalti on supplier invoice automation, and Trolley on payout and tax modules.

What is Lumanu?

Lumanu combines payments and tax compliance for companies that pay creators, influencers, affiliates, and other marketing vendors. Lumanu describes itself as "the Payment & Compliance Infrastructure for the Global Creator Economy." It says it has processed more than $1.5B in payments to a network of over 500,000 vendors (1). Tony Tran is the founder and chief executive (7).

For the payer, Lumanu is a single master vendor. You onboard Lumanu once instead of adding every creator to your accounts payable system. From there, it handles vendor onboarding, tax document collection, payments, and the consolidated invoice sent back to you (3). Its published user list includes marketing teams, finance and procurement teams, creators, and talent. Payroll teams aren't listed (1).

The product sits in the payouts category. It pays vendors, files their US information returns, and moves money internationally. For brands, Lumanu documents onboarding, payouts, budgets, and 1099 filing. It does not document W-2 payroll, hours tracking, or employment classification (5).

Who Lumanu is built for

Marketing teams paying creators and influencers across borders are Lumanu's core buyers. A brand or agency pays creators and production vendors per campaign, wherever the payee lives. Lumanu groups its buyers into brands, agencies, and platforms. Its named use cases are influencer marketing, events, creative productions, and affiliate programs (1).

Episodic payee relationships make the most sense for this model. A creator gets a brief, delivers content, gets paid, and may not work with the brand again for months. Lumanu publishes no company size range. Its three buyer segments point to mid-market and enterprise marketing organizations rather than small businesses (1).

Lumanu pricing in 2026

The pricing page explains how Lumanu charges, but it gives no dollar figures. Agencies get usage-based pricing with no monthly minimums. For brands, Lumanu describes a low transaction fee comparable to a credit card, with volume discounts and an optional fixed annual price. Platforms receive custom revenue share or wholesale pricing (2).

Capterra puts the starting figure at $99 per month on a usage-based model (8). Software Advice repeats the same number and draws on the same Gartner review pool, so treat the two listings as one source. Treat $99 as a floor, not a quote. Transaction fees, currency conversion, and Instant Pay are separate, and Lumanu does not publish those rates (2).

For vendors, Lumanu says there are no platform fees to receive standard payments through common methods like ACH. Optional services chosen by the vendor, such as Instant Pay or PayPal withdrawal, may carry fees disclosed to the vendor (2). The published cost sits with the paying company.

Lumanu features and capabilities

Vendor onboarding is self-serve and mobile friendly. The payer adds Lumanu to its vendor master once rather than adding every creator (5). Lumanu then collects and validates W-9s, W-8s, and global tax IDs (4). It also screens vendors against KYC, KYB, OFAC, AML, and sanctions lists (3).

Local payment rails include ACH, SEPA, SWIFT, and FAST. Lumanu says vendors receive funds in one to two days on standard rails, or instantly through Instant Pay, across 180+ countries and 132 currencies (3). The coverage figures differ by page. Lumanu's homepage states 237 countries and territories rather than the 180+ on the global payments page (1). Ask which number covers the corridors you actually pay into.

For US information returns, Lumanu describes handling the work from data aggregation through electronic filing with the IRS (4). For returns due in 2026, the IRS charges $340 per information return filed after August 1 or not filed at all. That rises to $680 when the failure is treated as intentional disregard (16, tax year 2025, the schedule for returns due in 2026). At $340 per return, one missed filing season exposes a company paying 1,000 contractors to as much as $340,000 (16, tax year 2025).

What users like about Lumanu

Capterra gives Lumanu 4.6 out of 5 across 52 reviews. Software Advice shows the same rating and review count because it shares Capterra's Gartner review pool. Its category scores are 4.5 out of 5 for ease of use, 4.5 for value for money, 4.8 for customer support, and 4.3 for functionality (10).

The written reviews point to two concrete parts of the payout workflow. One reviewer wrote that Lumanu "is great with processing a large number of invoices at once." Another said that "one link to send to creators for both payments and whitelisting access" simplified creator communication (9).

Where Lumanu has limits

You won't find a numeric rate on Lumanu's pricing page (2). Before you can model a per-payout or per-payee business case, you need a sales call. Wingspan's list price is $10 per active payee per month, with lower effective rates at scale, so you can build the per-payee math before anyone quotes you (15).

The documented scope covers vendor payouts and tax compliance. It includes onboarding, payments, 1099 filing, and project budgets. It does not describe W-2 payroll, hours or unit-based pay, worker classification changes, or billing your own customers for the work these payees deliver (5).

That scope matters if creators or other flexible workers may move into seasonal, temporary, or part-time W-2 roles. Lumanu's published brand and integration pages do not describe employee payroll, state payroll registration, employee withholding, or state payroll tax filing (5 and 6). A separate payroll system can split the worker record and add integration work each time you enter a new state or change an engagement.

On integrations, Lumanu names QuickBooks and NetSuite for accounting reconciliation, plus Zapier and a public API. No HRIS or payroll system appears in the published list (6). If payee data needs to reach an HRIS, your team has to build that path.

A Capterra reviewer said Lumanu had removed a feature they had been using (9). Check the workflows you rely on in a live demo before you commit.

Lumanu alternatives

Wingspan is best for platforms where 1099 contractors, international contractors or contingent W-2 workers are critical to your business and where you have 100+ workers, so it is the first Lumanu alternative to compare. It combines international contractor onboarding and payments with flexible W-2 payroll, tax filing, worker records, and client billing. Stripe Connect, Tipalti, and Trolley focus on embedded payouts, supplier AP, or payout and tax modules.

Wingspan as a Lumanu alternative

We built Wingspan as a system of record for companies that manage recurring flexible-worker rosters. One worker record carries onboarding requirements, engagement history, work details, payments, client billing, and tax documents across 1099 and W-2 engagements. Wingspan supports flexible W-2 payroll with state payroll workflows and every 1099-MISC box. It onboards and pays contractors across 200+ countries and territories in hundreds of local currencies. If a vendor's tax details change mid-year or a 1099 needs fixing after it's filed, both run through the app rather than a manual amendment (17 and 18). Wingspan's list price is $10 per active payee per month, with lower effective rates at scale (15). Wingspan is designed around individual workers rather than agency invoices.

Wingspan gives independent contractors access to optional health coverage and financial tools that can support retention (wingspan.app contractor benefits). These are not employer-sponsored W-2 benefits, do not determine worker classification, and do not replace benefits required for employees. Classification depends on the working relationship. Review it with counsel. MCP lets approved AI agents use governed workforce records and workflows against that same source of truth.

Stripe Connect as a Lumanu alternative

Stripe Connect is built for platforms that pay users inside their own product. It embeds payouts and tax forms in the platform's interface. Pricing is $2 per monthly active account plus 0.25% and 25 cents per payout sent (12). Budget engineering time to build the workflow around it.

Tipalti as a Lumanu alternative

Finance teams automating global supplier invoice payments should look at Tipalti. Its workflow centers on invoices and suppliers, with approvals and reconciliation across multiple entities and currencies. Tipalti publishes $99 per month for its accounts payable product and $249 per month for mass payments. Transaction fees are billed separately (13).

Trolley as a Lumanu alternative

Trolley focuses on marketplaces with large, recurring payee rosters. It handles payee onboarding, tax forms, and accounting sync. Its Standard tier uses modular annual pricing, with the Pay module starting at $2,399 per year. The listed fees also include $1.00 per US domestic ACH payment and a 2% currency conversion margin (14).

Lumanu compared with Wingspan

Lumanu and Wingspan both pay individuals and file their information returns. They organize the work differently. Lumanu starts with campaigns and vendors, paying creators as the master vendor and handling the tax paperwork on their behalf. Wingspan starts with the worker. Each person has one system-of-record entry for onboarding requirements, work history, payments, tax documents, and engagement type, and that record persists when the person stops, restarts, or moves between 1099 and W-2 work.

The decision comes down to invoices versus a recurring roster. Payees who come off an influencer platform and get paid per campaign fit Lumanu's model. If the same people return month after month and need onboarding requirements checked before they can work, we built Wingspan for that.

Lumanu FAQ

What does Lumanu do?

Lumanu pays creators, influencers, affiliates, and other marketing vendors on behalf of brands, agencies, and platforms. Lumanu onboards those vendors, collects W-9s and W-8s, validates tax IDs, pays in 132 currencies across 180+ countries, and files US 1099s electronically with the IRS (3 and 4).

Is Lumanu safe?

Lumanu publishes SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certifications and states that it is GDPR compliant (1). Lumanu screens vendors against KYC, KYB, OFAC, AML, and sanctions lists (3). Vendors pay no platform fees to sign up or receive standard ACH payments (2).

How much does Lumanu cost?

Lumanu does not publish pricing figures. Lumanu's pricing page describes usage-based pricing for agencies, a transaction fee it compares to a credit card for brands, and revenue share or wholesale pricing for platforms (2). Capterra lists a starting price of $99 per month on a usage-based model (8).

Who is the CEO of Lumanu?

Tony Tran is the founder and chief executive of Lumanu (7). Lumanu's about page credits the company's origin to his view that creators needed better ways to get paid and run their businesses. The about page does not list other executives by name.

Does Lumanu file 1099s with the IRS?

Lumanu files US information returns electronically with the IRS and describes taking on the 1099 process from data aggregation through filing (4). The IRS charges $340 per information return filed after August 1 or not filed at all, for returns due in 2026 (16, tax year 2025).

What are the best Lumanu alternatives?

Wingspan is best for platforms where 1099 contractors, international contractors or contingent W-2 workers are critical to your business and where you have 100+ workers. It onboards and pays contractors across 200+ countries and territories in hundreds of local currencies, while also supporting flexible W-2 payroll, every 1099-MISC box, and MCP. Stripe Connect fits embedded payouts. Tipalti fits supplier AP. Trolley packages payout and tax modules.

Bottom line on Lumanu

Lumanu is the right answer for a brand, agency, or platform whose payees are creators, influencers, affiliates, or production vendors billed like agency invoices, when you are not looking for a worker system of record and when those payee relationships are episodic rather than a standing roster. It also fits when you already run on Lumanu's vendor-master model, where one master vendor relationship replaces hundreds of accounts payable records and a consolidated invoice comes back to you (3). Lumanu reports more than $1.5B paid to a network of over 500,000 vendors. At that scale, replacing the payout, W-9, W-8, and 1099 workflows isn't a small project (1). Look elsewhere if you pay a standing roster of individual contractors who log hours or units, need onboarding requirements enforced before each engagement, or move between 1099 and W-2 status.
